Australia’s Fastest Schoolboy? NQ’s Uwezo Steals the Show!
Posted on December 10 2025
The battle to determine Australia’s fastest school-aged athletes has wrapped up at Lakeside Stadium, where Townsville’s Uwezo Lubenda delivered a standout performance at the 2025 Chemist Warehouse Australian Athletics All Schools Championships. At just 16, Lubenda (NQ) rose to the occasion in the Under 17 Boys 100m, clocking 10.52 (+0.7) to claim the title of Australia’s fastest schoolboy. With a blistering start, the Townsville sprinter crossed ahead of Epeosi Ugbomhe (NSW), who earned silver with a personal best of 10.76 seconds.
“I made sure my start was right and I made sure to hold my composure, and that my arms were pumping. I’m happy with the time, it doesn’t matter – I got the win and that was the main goal,” Lubenda said.
“I’ve never been in that sort of situation before, it’s been quite amazing.”
Despite falling just 0.02 seconds short of the qualifying mark for the 2026 World Athletics Under 20 Championships, Lubenda’s run outpaced competitors in the age division above, where Zavier Peacock (NSW) secured the Under 18 Boys title in 10.64 (-1.2), ahead of Oliver Facer (NSW) in 10.72 and Jonathan Kasiano (QLD) in 10.78.
Adding to North Queensland’s success, the Men’s Under 18 4x100m relay team — Uwezo Lubenda, Mason Green, Ethan Asimba, and Keanu Hewitt-Watson — stormed home to claim silver in 41.58, finishing just behind Victoria’s winning time of 41.30.
Athletics North Queensland showcased an amazing display of talent, determination, and heart. Huge congratulations to all the athletes, coaches, and staff who dedicate countless hours to developing these incredible young athletes.
EV2 is proud to see these talented athletes representing our gear on the national stage.
