Cougars Sapphire and Ruby Teams Head Straight into the Grand Finals

Both the Cougars Sapphire and Ruby teams have secured their place in next weekend’s Grand Finals after impressive victories in the first round of finals.
The Sapphire team faced Bond University, coming away with a commanding 61–48 win. Earlier in the season, Kedron-Wavell and the Bond University Bull Sharks had met twice, with the Bull Sharks edging out the Cougars in Round 5 (61–58), before the Cougars responded in Round 14 with a 79–73 victory. This decisive first-round finals clash has now paved the way for the Cougars to advance directly to the Grand Final. They will face the winner of the semi-final between the Bond University Bull Sharks and the Sunshine Coast Thunder.
Congratulations to Jessie Laga’aia, (Pictured 2nd below) who received the Kedron-Wavell Player of the Round award this week.
The Kedron-Wavell Cougars’ Ruby team also proved too strong, defeating the Gold Coast Titans 57–53. The two sides had already built a strong rivalry this season, with the Titans claiming victory 69–53 in one match, before the Cougars struck back with a 64–50 win in their next meeting. The Titans will now battle the Jets in the semi-final, with the winner set to challenge the Cougars once more for the championship title.
Both Cougar teams now enjoy a well-earned week off to prepare for their Grand Final appearances.
